Rebbetin Riddle Says...

Twice the Light on Friday Night!
  A Woman's Liberation!Show Me the Way Home!

This Erev Shabbos (Friday evening), we also light Chanukah candles. The Chanukah candles should be long enough to last an hour, and we light them first. Then we light Shabbos candles. Even though the light may look the same, they really are different.

We light Shabbos candles to see in the room. In this way, we benefit from the light.

We light Chanukah candles especially to publicize the miracles that occurred centuries ago. So they may not be used for reading or other purposes.

Although the Shabbos and Chanukah candles are used for different things, they both remind us that G-d is the true source of light.

PS. Make sure you light all the candles before sundown.
