The Best Way to Forgive | |||
|
Rabbi Yitzchak Meir of Ger was a great sage. Every day, hundreds of people came to him for advice. One day, a worried man cut in front of the line. "I must speak to the Rabbi at once!" he said.Rabbi Yitzchak Meir's secretary tried to stop the man, but he slapped the secretary in the face! When the man entered Rabbi Yitzchak Meir's study, the Rabbi said, "Why did you hit my secretary?"
"I'm sorry," the man cried, "but I just had to speak to you!"
"I cannot help you until you apologize to him," Rabbi Yitzchak Meir replied. Then he called the secretary into his study.
"Please forgive me!" the man begged.
The secretary didn't say a word. Yet he thought to himself, "It's not enough for me to forgive him. I want to do more. I must help him too!"
Finally, the secretary spoke up. "I will forgive him on one condition."
"What's that?" Rabbi Yitzchak Meir asked.
"My condition is that you help him in any way you can!"
Rabbi Yitzchak Meir smiled. "Now that's what I call forgiveness!"
